Differential bevel pinion mate gear

Pinion mate gear for front and rear axle

Bevel differential pinion mate gear for Dana 25 front axle and Dana 23/27 rear axle. This bevel gear rotates on the cross shaft in the differential and provides torque transmission to the side gears. Replacement part for restoration and repair of original axles.

Material

Hardened steel

Surface

Hardened

Application

Front and rear axle differential

Type

Spiral bevel gear

Features

  • Bevel differential pinion mate gear
  • For Dana 25 front axle and Dana 23/27 rear axle
  • Hardened steel with bevel gearing
  • Mounts on cross shaft in differential
  • Replaces worn or damaged gears

★ Essential component for properly functioning differential. When replacing, always fit complete spider gear set including side gears and thrust washers for optimal fit.

Installation notes

Always replaced as a set with all other spider gears, side gears and thrust washers. Individual replacement of a single gear is not recommended due to uneven wear. Correct shim adjustment and thrust washer clearance are critical for service life.

Compatibility

Fits Dana 25 front axle (MB/GPW front and rear, early models) and Dana 27 rear axle (MB/GPW). Also applicable to Dana 23 rear axle. Not interchangeable with later Dana 30/44 models.

Historical context

The Dana/Spicer differentials in the Willys MB and Ford GPW used spiral bevel gears for reliable torque transmission in demanding military conditions. This design remained in use until the early 1950s in various Willys models.
