  • Used on early Willys MB up to serial number 174738
  • Typical for slat grille vehicles 1941-1942
  • Replacement part for authentic restoration
  • Pressed steel panel – primed for paint finishing

★ Essential component for correct restoration of early WWII jeeps with the original narrow fuel tank.

Application

Fits early Willys MB and Ford GPW built up to serial number 174738 (primarily 1941 – early 1942), including slat grille variants. These vehicles featured a fuel tank with narrow 2-inch filler neck, the same diameter as later used on the CJ-2A. From serial number 174739 onwards, the change to the larger 4-inch fuel cap required a different seat panel.

Installation notes

The seat panel mounts onto the driver's seat frame and rests on the fuel tank. Important: this early variant is NOT compatible with the later large 4-inch fuel cap. Before fitting, verify your vehicle's serial number and fuel cap diameter. The panel is supplied primed and should be finished in the correct colour (Olive Drab 319 or interior colour).

Compatibility

Exclusively for early vehicles with narrow 2-inch fuel filler cap. NOT compatible with standard MB/GPW with large 4-inch fuel cap (from serial number 174739 onwards). For late production vehicles, a different seat panel with larger opening is required. If in doubt: check your fuel cap diameter – 2 inch (50 mm) = early variant, 4 inch (100 mm) = late variant.

Historical context

The first Willys MB jeeps used a fuel tank with narrow filler neck, similar to the later civilian CJ-2A. This was changed around serial number 174738 when the Army switched to a larger 4-inch fuel cap with removable strainer, which also required modification of the seat panel.
