★ Essential for authentic restoration of WWII military vehicles according to factory specifications. The Blue Drab colour was used from late 1940 for all factory numbering and replaced by white in February 1945.

Application

This paint was originally used for stamping registration numbers, USA inscriptions and technical data on the bonnet, bumpers and other components during production in the factories. Suitable for all American military vehicles from the period late 1940 to February 1945, including jeeps, lorries and other tactical vehicles. The Blue Drab colour was applied with stencils and stipple brushes or by spray work.

Installation notes

Apply using stencils or masks. For best results: first apply a thin mist coat, then after a few minutes a covering coat. Ensure a clean, dry and grease-free surface. The paint dries quickly, which prevents runs on vertical surfaces. Preferably work at temperatures between 15-25°C.

Compatibility

Please note: from February 1945, registration numbers were no longer applied in Blue Drab but in lusterless white. For vehicles produced before late 1940, white or yellow paint was used. Reserve stocks of Blue Drab were sometimes still used after February 1945. For authentic restoration: check the production date of your vehicle.

Historical context

From late 1940 until February 1945, American military vehicle manufacturers used Blue Drab paint for all factory numbering and markings. This colour was applied by factory workers using three-piece gummed oil board stencils and stipple brushes. The low contrast between Blue Drab and Olive Drab vehicle paint was intentional, for tactical reasons during wartime.
