⚠ Important

  • Thoroughly remove rust and prime surface before application
  • Never reduce paint by more than 10%
  • Only apply in well-ventilated space
  • Use suitable respiratory protection when spraying
  • Thoroughly stir or place on shaker paint that has been stored for long periods
  • Fully respect drying time between coats (15-20 minutes)
  • Do not add hardener – no hardener used originally

Application

Applied to American military vehicles and equipment from 1941 to mid-1944. This lusterless (completely matt) Olive Drab shade was the standard factory paint in this period and replaced the earlier gloss army green paint from the 1930s.

Installation notes

Thoroughly prepare and prime surface with suitable automotive primer. Reduce paint if necessary with max 10% xylene, xylol or synthetic enamel reducer. Apply preferably with spray gun. Drying time: touch dry 10-20 min, tack-free approx. 4 hours, fully cured after 6-7 hours. If paint has been stored for long periods: scrape bottom and place on paint shaker for 10 minutes before use.

Compatibility

Please note: there are different Olive Drab shades from the war. This paint (1941-44) has a completely matt lusterless finish and differs from the later semi-gloss variant (AJP / 2430) which was used from mid-1944. The 33070 shade is generally slightly greener than the later 319 specification. For post-war vehicles (Korea, Vietnam) different shades apply.

Historical context

From 1941, the American army standardised the Olive Drab colour with a new lusterless (matt) enamel formula according to specification QM Colour 22, later designated 33070 or 319. This matt finish provided better camouflage than the earlier gloss paint and was used until mid-1944.
