★ This reproduction follows original military specifications. The wiper arms are hardened to original specification, unlike cheaper sets. The system uses rubber inserts for smooth operation.
Application
Suitable for Willys MB (1941-1945) and Ford GPW (1941-1945). This tandem set was standard on early-war vehicles until the introduction of vacuum-operated wipers in April 1945 (Willys) and June 1945 (Ford, depending on factory). Fits windshield frame assembly WO-A-3210 / FM-GPW-1103010.
Installation notes
Installation requires two holes of 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) diameter, 12 inches (30.5 cm) from centre on each side, above the glass in the inner frame. Wiper arms must be fully inserted through the windscreen frame to the crimp mark — the outer washer sits at that point. Set is pre-assembled and contains all fixing hardware. Compatible with original windscreen frame without modifications.
Compatibility
NOT suitable for CJ-5 (did not originally have manual wipers). DOES fit CJ-2A with modification — original CJ-2A had one vacuum wiper and one manual wiper. Does NOT fit M38A1 without extension of the connecting shaft between the two wiper arms. Windscreen with holes for vacuum wipers (late 1945) must be modified.
Historical context
The manual tandem windscreen wiper was an early-war improvement on the original, fully independent hand wipers. By mechanically coupling both wiper arms, one occupant could operate both screens — an important ergonomic improvement for solo drivers in combat conditions.
