Application
This windscreen fits the very first Willys MB production series with welded slat grill (circa November 1941 – early 1942, serial numbers MB100001-MB125809). Note: the earliest slat grills (up to approx. MB103544) had a lower windscreen (20" without rubber) with adapted bonnet fastening system. Later slat grills received the standard higher windscreen (22" without rubber).
Installation notes
The inner frame (glass carrier) is universal and even fits in Ford GP frames. Attachment to dashboard is done with special clamps (brass on early vehicles, stamped steel on later ones). Wiper arms: early slat grills had manual or separate vacuum wiper sets; the tandem wiper only came in 1944. Check that the height of your windscreen frame (low or standard) corresponds with the bonnet fastening system.
Compatibility
NOT UNIVERSAL: Early slat grills up to approx. serial number 103544 had a short windscreen (5 cm lower strip below glass, 20" total height). Later slat grills and standard MB/GPW use higher windscreen (6" strip, 22" total). Canvas fastening: early slat grills up to MB164554 used push-button fastenings on windscreen frame; later vehicles received lift-the-dot snaps. Check your chassis number and bonnet configuration before ordering.
Historical context
The slat grill Willys MB was the very first standard production version of the iconic WWII jeep, built from November 1941 to March 1942. These early vehicles had a characteristic welded slat grille before Ford's stamped grille became the standard.
