For Willys MB and Ford GPW built before April 1942

Material

Metal, nickel-plated

Type

Key lock (H700)

Application

Early MB/GPW (until April '42)

Delivery scope

Lock (key not included)

Features

  • Lockable lock for glove box
  • Original type for early production MB and GPW
  • Compatible with H700 standard key
  • Replaces original part number A-3823
  • Fitting without striker plate in dashboard

★ Correct reproduction of the original key lock as used on early WWII jeeps until the production change in April 1942.

Application

Fits Willys MB and Ford GPW built before April 1942. These vehicles have NO screw hole in the dashboard above the box opening (this hole only appeared with the later push-button version). The lock works in combination with a spring-loaded door that is held in the closed position by a raised pin in the lock that fits into a hole in the upper lip of the box opening.

Installation notes

Please note: this lock requires a glove box door with low keyhole (low lock door). The door must be fitted with a hinge spring that presses the door against the opening. No striker plate is needed – the lock contains a raised pin that engages in a hole in the dashboard edge when locked. Check that this hole is present in the upper lip of the box opening. Vehicles with a screw hole above the opening are intended for the later push-button version.

Compatibility

ONLY for early type MB/GPW without screw hole in dashboard above box. NOT compatible with late type box doors (high lock) or vehicles with push-button system (from April '42). Please note: key is usually not supplied – use standard H700 key which also fits early type ignition switch and tool box locks.

Historical context

From the start of production in 1941, Willys MB and Ford GPW were fitted with lockable glove boxes that worked with the H700 standard key. In April 1942, they switched to a simpler push-button system without a key to speed up production and reduce costs.
