Installation notes

Hat channels are spot welded beneath the front floor according to original patterns. Wooden blocks sit in the channels at locations where body mounting bolts pass through. Stabilise body first with cross supports before removing old floor. Align channels with original position relative to footboard reinforcements and A-pillars.

Compatibility

Note: different types exist for early Willys-style bodies versus late ACM-type/Ford bodies. Check which body type your vehicle has before ordering. Wooden filling can retain moisture and cause rust — some restorers replace this with steel collars or plastic.

Historical context

Originally, the hat channels at Willys-Overland and Ford were fitted with wooden filler blocks (often oak or ash) to shape the channels during production and prevent deformation during assembly. These wooden blocks are a characteristic element of WWII production, although they were often omitted or replaced by other materials in later rebuilds.
