★ Reproduction of the original late-type fuel tank as used on WWII jeeps from mid-1942 onwards. The extendable filler tube facilitates refuelling from jerrycans or drums.

Application

For Willys MB and Ford GPW military jeeps built from mid-1942 to 1945. Suitable for vehicles with the late-type large filler opening. Early jeeps (1941 to mid-1942) had the small mouth type without extendable filler tube.

Installation notes

Tank mounts beneath the driver's seat with retaining straps. The filler tube can be pulled out and rotated clockwise to remain in locked position during refuelling. Fuel line connection has 1/2-20 thread for 5/16" inverted flare fitting. During installation, fit felt strips between tank and floor plate to prevent contact noise.

Compatibility

CAUTION: Three different versions of MB/GPW fuel tanks exist: (1) Early small mouth (1941-mid-1942) without extendable filler tube, (2) Mid-series large mouth without PTO indent (mid-1942-mid-1943), and (3) Late large mouth with PTO indent (mid-1943-1945). Check which type is correct for your vehicle. This tank is the late type with large filler opening.

Historical context

The transition from small mouth to large mouth fuel tank occurred during 1942 production. The larger filler opening facilitated faster refuelling in field conditions, where refuelling was often carried out from jerrycans without the aid of a funnel.
