Application
This fuel tank pan fits early production vehicles built from November 1941 to early 1942 (serial numbers approximately 100001 to 174738). Used in combination with the early fuel tank with narrow mouth/small cap and early driver's seat panel with round opening. The square corners distinguish this early pan from the later rounded version (A-3497).
Installation notes
Mount in the floor panel beneath the driver's seat. Ensure the drain holes are facing downwards and remain clear. Combine with the correct felt anti-squeak kit around the fuel tank. The pan serves as protection against stone chips and as a catch pan for any leaked fuel. Check after installation that the tank has sufficient clearance and is not under tension.
Compatibility
ONLY for early production 1941 - early 1942. Does NOT fit later vehicles with wide mouth filler opening which received the rounded tank pan (A-3497) from September 1942 onwards. Note: the late tank pan has rounded corners and a slightly different shape. Always use the correct combination of tank pan, fuel tank and driver's seat panel for your production period.
Historical context
The early tank pan with square corners was used during the first production period of the standardised 1/4-ton 4x4 truck. In early 1942, the design was changed to a larger filler opening and rounded tank pan to enable faster refuelling in combat conditions.
