Oil filler tube early version Ford GPW (funnel-type)

Without ventilation – for early production April – December 1942

Early oil filler tube design with characteristic funnel shape and friction connection for cap, developed for Ford GPW vehicles produced between April and December 1942. This version has no crankcase ventilation connection and is characterised by the straight tube form without clearance for the generator.

Application

Ford GPW early engines April–Dec. 1942

Version

Funnel-type, without ventilation

Feature

Friction fit cap (push-on)

Ordnance no.

WO-A-5165

Features

  • Official Willys part no. WO-A-5165 (SNL G-503 Group 0107G)
  • Ford part no. FM-GPW-6763-B (early funnel-type)
  • No crankcase ventilation tube – road draft ventilation
  • Friction-fit funnel top – push-on cap without bayonet fitting
  • No clearance for generator at lower tube
  • Direct mounting to engine block via flange mounting

★ Correct reproduction of the early Ford GPW oil filler tube for vehicles from the first production period, before the introduction of PCV ventilation in February 1943.

Application

Specifically for Ford GPW with engine produced between April and December 1942 (GPW-6763-B period). This early version was replaced by the late GPW-6763-C version with bayonet-cap and crankcase ventilation from 8 February 1943. Not suitable for later vehicles with PCV system or for vehicles with clearance for generator.

Installation notes

Mount the tube directly into the pre-drilled hole in the engine block with sealing ring. Note: this tube has NO ventilation tube connection. The vehicle must have a separate road draft tube on the rocker cover for crankcase ventilation. The cap is placed via friction-fit onto the funnel opening, not screwed.

Compatibility

NOT compatible with engines fitted with PCV system (from Feb. 1943). NOT compatible with intake manifolds equipped with ventilation drillings (GPW after 8 Feb. 1943). Willys MB used comparable but subtly different parts (WO-639556 for early MB, then WO-A-6915 late MB). Early slat grill jeeps (MB until approx. March 1942) also used push-on funnel type.

Historical context

Ford introduced the friction-fit funnel-type oil filler tube (GPW-6763-B) in April 1942 as an improved version of the very first design, used until December 1942. With the introduction of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system in February 1943, this was replaced by the GPW-6763-C with bayonet-cap and ventilation tube connection.
