Application

Suitable for early Willys MB and Ford GPW vehicles that were produced with a key-lockable glove box. In April 1942, both Willys and Ford switched to a push-button system with striker plate. Early Ford GPWs up to approximately April 1942 had this lock type. Vehicles without a hole in the dashboard above the glove box opening used this key-type lock.

Installation notes

Mounting on the inside of the glove box. Vehicles with this lock type have no striker plate and no mounting hole in the dashboard above the door opening. For vehicles with a hole in the dashboard: use push-button version with striker plate.

Compatibility

NOT compatible with late type glove box doors (after April 1942) that are pre-drilled for push-button system. Late vehicles have a striker plate and hole in the dashboard — for these, a push-button latch is required. This lock type belongs to early low-lock glovebox doors without notches in the lower corners.

Historical context

Early Willys MB and Ford GPW vehicles had a glove box door with key lock. In April 1942, this was replaced by a simpler push-button system to speed up production and save costs during wartime production.
