Application
This inner panel fits Ford GPW jeeps from the production period 1942-1945. Suitable for early GPW with own Ford body (until September 1943), ACM Type 1 body (September-December 1943) and ACM Type 2 composite body (January 1944-1945). Note: GPW panels may show subtle differences from Willys MB panels in stampings and fitting.
Installation notes
Panel is welded to the body structure via spot welds. Fitting requires removal of the old/damaged panel by drilling out the original spot weld connections. Place a support bar across the tub above the toolboxes before starting. Ensure correct positioning for the wheelhouse fit. This panel does not include a reinforcement support — if required, this must be purchased and fitted separately.
Compatibility
Specifically left (driver side). For the right side (passenger side) a separate panel is required. This panel is WITHOUT reinforcement support (reinforcement plate); early GPW bodies had no support, from February 1943 onwards the support between rear panel and wheelhouse was added. Check your original body to determine which version is required.
Historical context
Ford produced the GPW from 1942 to 1945 with a total of approximately 280,000 units. The body construction changed during the war: Ford made its own bodies until September 1943, after which bodies were supplied by American Central Manufacturing (ACM), first Type 1 and from January 1944 the composite Type 2 body combining Ford and Willys features.
