Application
Willys MB with ACM Type 1 body (1941-1943) and ACM Type 2 Composite body (1944-1945). Also suitable for Ford GPW with Composite body (1944-1945). The Willys/Composite bracket design differs from the early Ford-bodied GPW bracket (1942-1943).
Installation notes
Bracket is secured with two 10-24 x 3/8" machine screws. ACM bodies have threaded holes; installation with split lock washers and nuts per SNL G-503. A reinforcement strip ('bridge' with two holes) was manufactured for early Ford bodies but is absent on MB and ACM Type 2 GPW bodies. Note: lock must be pushed to open position for easier installation.
Compatibility
NOT compatible with early Ford GPW bodies (1942-mid 1943) — these have a different rectangular bracket design. Willys MB and late GPW (Composite bodies from 1944) use the same bracket with round lock button depressions. Before installation, verify body type by examining toeboard gussets and toolbox lock opening.
Historical context
From 1944, American Central Manufacturing Company (ACM) produced standardised Composite bodies for both Willys and Ford, with identical toolbox lock brackets. This simplified production and maintenance during the war.
