Application
For military jeeps with composite body from the period January 1944 to May 1945. The composite body was produced by American Central Manufacturing and used by both manufacturers. The rear panel is the central vertical surface at the rear of the body onto which the spare wheel carrier is mounted.
Installation notes
This panel is welded in to replace damaged or perforated sheet metal at the rear of the body. Check alignment with adjacent body sections (wheel arches, floor) before fitting. Spot weld at correct positions according to original production method. Apply primer and paint after fitting.
Compatibility
Fits composite body as used from early 1944. Not suitable for early Ford-specific bodies (until September 1943) or early Willys ACM Type 1 bodies with different pressings. Note: composite bodies had round toolbox locking recesses and Ford-style gussets with three holes.
Historical context
From January 1944, American Central Manufacturing produced the 'composite body' which combined the best of the Willys and Ford design. The Ford design was followed for, amongst others, the rear panel with spare wheel carrier. This standardised production for both manufacturers in the final war year.
