Application
Specifically for Willys MB Slat Grill (November 1941 - March 1942) and early Willys MB with stamped grille (March 1942 - July 1942). Not suitable for late MB (after July 1942) which no longer had manufacturer's name, or for Ford GPW which had a script "Ford" stamping.
Installation notes
Weld-in panel. Position body on chassis and slide fully rearward against the machine gun mount plate before final welding. Slight differences in alignment between rear of body and rear cross member are normal. After welding, finish with primer and Olive Drab paint.
Compatibility
CAUTION: Only for early Willys MB up to July 1942. Not compatible with late Willys MB (from August 1942 onwards), which had no stamping on the rear panel. Ford GPW used a script "Ford" stamping (until July 1942), not "WILLYS" block letters. ACM Type 2 composite bodies (from January 1944 onwards) no longer had stamping.
Historical context
Early Willys MB jeeps bore the "WILLYS" block letter stamping on the left side of the rear panel as a manufacturer's mark. In spring 1942, the War Department decided to remove these logos for uniformity and security. These panels are characteristic of the rare slat grill jeeps and earliest production MBs.
