Willys part no.

WOA647 (A647)

Type

Early style master cylinder

Mounting

Firewall mounting above master cylinder

Features

  • Protects brake fluid against overheating
  • Prevents brake fluid from boiling under heavy use
  • Fits early master cylinders with forward-facing threaded holes
  • Mounts as original, no modifications required
  • Replaces often missing or damaged original

★ Correct reproduction of this often missing protective component. Essential for reliable brake operation.

Application

Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), Hotchkiss M201, and early CJ-2A up to serial number 215,649. Only suitable for early style master cylinders where both mounting holes face forward and one of them is threaded.

Installation notes

Mounts with existing fixing bolts between tie bar and master cylinder to the firewall. No drilling or modifications required. Check before ordering that your master cylinder is the early style version (forward-facing threaded holes). Late master cylinders from CJ-2A serial number 215,649 onwards use a different heat shield (WO-800027).

Compatibility

ONLY for early style master cylinders with forward-facing mounting holes. Willys MB and Ford GPW had this type as standard. CJ-2A up to serial number 215,649 also had this type. From CJ-2A serial number 215,649 onwards and later (CJ-3A, CJ-3B, M38, M38A1) a different heat shield was used. Not interchangeable between early and late versions.

Historical context

Developed during WWII to protect brake fluid from exhaust manifold heat, particularly during intensive use in mountainous terrain or at high ambient temperatures. This part was often removed during civilian use and is therefore missing on many restorations.
