Application

This pintle hook is the correct version for Willys MB slat-grille jeeps (1941) and early production script Willys MB jeeps (1941-early 1942). Later in the war (from April 1945), production switched to a welded construction (WO-A-10529). The STL marking refers to the manufacturer of the original cast component.

Installation notes

The pintle hook is mounted on the rear chassis crossmember with four bolts (7/16" NF thread, 1-1/8" long with shoulder). Mount with the opening facing rearward. After mounting, check that the operating mechanism works smoothly and the pin locks correctly.

Compatibility

This early cast version is historically correct for Willys MB slat-grille and early script MB jeeps up to approximately early 1942. Technically this pintle hook also fits later MB and Ford GPW chassis, but for late-war correct restoration (1944-1945) the welded version (WO-A-10529) is historically more accurate. Not suitable for M38 or CJ-series without modifications.

Historical context

The cast pintle hook with STL marking was used on the earliest Willys MB production. Due to material shortages during the war, Willys-Overland switched in 1945 to a welded sheet metal construction to conserve casting capacity.
