Application
Suitable for WWII 1/4-ton military trailers such as Bantam T-3, Willys MBT and variants produced by Converto, Fruehauf, Gemco and other contract manufacturers. The landing leg is used to support the front of the trailer when not coupled to a vehicle, allowing the trailer to stand horizontally for loading and unloading.
Installation notes
Mount on the landing leg bracket (support bracket A-6371) attached to the trailer chassis, directly behind the lunette. Fixing is done with a 3/4"-16 bolt with castle nut and split pin. The landing leg can be set in 3 positions: fully up (when travelling), halfway (for use on soft/muddy ground) and fully down (normal parking position). Please note: fixing materials not included.
Compatibility
Fits Bantam T-3 and Willys MBT trailers from WWII. Please note: later M100 and M416 trailers had a different landing leg with only 2 positions (up/down) instead of 3. Check that your trailer has the correct support bracket with the characteristic mounting holes.
Historical context
The WWII 1/4-ton amphibious cargo trailer was produced from 1942 onwards by various manufacturers, with Bantam (approximately 75,000 units) and Willys-Overland (60,000+ units) as the main producers. The unique 3-position landing leg was a thoughtful design detail: the middle position prevented the trailer from sinking too deep into mud or soft ground when used in difficult terrain.
