★ Correct reproduction of the iconic WWII military first aid box, suitable for authentic restorations of jeeps and other light military vehicles from the 1944-1946 period.
Application
Was mounted under the dashboard of light military vehicles such as the Willys MB, Ford GPW and M38. The box was secured with a special bracket to the left of the glove box. The introduction of this mounting bracket took place from June 1944 on vehicles with ACM II body. The original Item No. 9777300 was produced from March 1944 until the end of 1946 and replaced by Stock No. 9-221-200 from early 1947.
Installation notes
The first aid box is mounted with a separate bracket (not included) which is bolted to the body under the dashboard, to the left of the glove box. ACM II body tubs have four pre-drilled mounting holes for the bracket. The box clips into the bracket with the four closure clips.
Compatibility
Fits standard WWII first aid kit brackets (separate mounting bracket required). Note: early MB/GPW vehicles built before June 1944 did not have standard mounting holes for the first aid bracket. Post-war variants with Stock No. 9-221-200 (from 1947) are visually very similar but have different stencilling.
Historical context
The US Army introduced the 12-Unit Motor Vehicle First Aid Kit during WWII as standard equipment for light vehicles (¼-ton trucks). Item No. 9777300 was produced from March 1944 by various manufacturers including Mine Safety Appliances (Pittsburgh), A.E. Halperin Co. (Boston), Davis Emergency Equipment Co. (Newark) and Handy Pad Supply Co. (Worcester). The metal boxes with rubber gaskets remained in service until the Korean War and were only replaced by plastic versions during the Vietnam War.
