Application
Standard equipment on all WWII jeeps (1941-1945). The starting crank was stored on the inside of the rear floor panel, secured with a clamp and wing nut. Fits into the opening in the front bumper to allow manual rotation of the crankshaft.
Installation notes
Mounts to the inside of the rear floor panel with a clamp (A-2466-5/16-18), pin and wing nut. Note: the engine must have a connection for manual cranking on the front crankshaft. The crank is inserted through the hole in the front bumper to crank the engine.
Compatibility
The one-piece 31.5 inch starting crank was standard on MB and GPW models, mounted to the rear floor panel. There was also a two-piece variant (32.75 inches total when assembled) that could be stored under the seat in the tool box. Note: some special radio jeeps (NOM-12, MZ-1, MZ-2) had a different mounting behind the shock towers due to the modified seat configuration.
Historical context
The hand starting crank (WOA-289) was standard equipment on all WWII jeeps as a backup for the electric starter. In winter conditions or with weak batteries, this tool was indispensable for starting the engine.
