Application
Suitable for vehicles with 12V electrical system. Original WWII Willys MB and Ford GPW had 6V systems and require a 6V siren or voltage adaptation. This 12V version is suitable for converted vehicles, later models with 12V system, or civilian jeeps.
Installation notes
Mounting usually on wing or firewall via bracket (sold separately). Requires push-button switch with "SIREN" marking (sold separately, 16mm hole size). Recommended wire gauge: 14 gauge (1.5-2.5mm²). Current draw at start approximately 50A, operating current approximately 20A — use appropriate fuse. Earth connection via body.
Compatibility
NOTE: Original WWII jeeps (Willys MB, Ford GPW, Hotchkiss M201) had 6V electrical systems and require a 6V siren. Willys M38 and M38A1 had 24V systems. This 12V siren is suitable for vehicles converted to 12V, or for later civilian models. Check your vehicle's voltage before ordering. Also available in 6V and 24V versions.
Historical context
Military sirens were used during WWII on command vehicles, MP jeeps, convoy leaders and on training grounds for warning signals. The characteristic "V"-grille sirens came from manufacturers such as Federal Signal and Champion, and produced the typical "air raid" sound.
