★ Essential component for correct WWII radio set configuration. MS-52 was used in combination with MS-51 and MS-53 sections for VHF FM radio sets, with each section having its own colour coding for quick recognition during assembly.
Application
The MS-52 section was used for VHF FM radio sets such as SCR-510 (BC-620), SCR-610 (BC-659) and SCR-608. For these radio sets, MS-53, MS-52 and MS-51 sections were typically used (depending on specific radio and vehicle), not the longer MS-50 and MS-49 sections which were reserved for HF radio sets. Suitable for mounting on MP-48, MP-48-A and later AB-15 antenna bases.
Installation notes
Screw section MS-52 with the red (thin) end into the thick end of MS-51, and with the blue (thick) end into the thin end of MS-53. Use MC-423 clamp (red) for MS-52/MS-51 connection and MC-424 clamp (blue) for MS-53/MS-52 connection. Clamps are essential to prevent sections from unscrewing during use — many MS-52 sections were lost because they were not secured with clamps.
Compatibility
Please note: MS-52 has smaller thread than MS-53/MS-54 and does NOT fit directly into antenna bases MP-48/MP-48-A/MP-50. Only MS-53 and MS-54 can be screwed directly into these bases. MS-52 is always an intermediate section. The MS-52 thread is too small for direct mounting on most antenna bases.
Historical context
The MS-52 section was part of the standard US Signal Corps antenna mast system during WWII and was used on jeeps, halftracks and other military vehicles. Due to loss during use, original MS-52 sections are nowadays very scarce.
