Application
This stencil set is designed for the Bantam T-3 1/4 ton amphibious cargo trailer, produced by American Bantam Car Company during WWII (circa 1942-1945). Also suitable for the Willys MBT (MB Trailer) which was virtually identical to the Bantam T-3. The set contains stencils for USA registration numbers, stars, shipping markings and other military specifications as used on trailers towed behind Willys MB and Ford GPW jeeps.
Installation notes
Apply stencils to a clean, dry surface. Secure the stencil firmly against the surface (optionally use spray adhesive or masking tape at the edges). Apply paint in light, even coats to prevent bleeding. Remove the stencil immediately after spraying for sharp lines. For oil board stencils: clean after use with thinners.
Compatibility
These stencils are specific to the Bantam T-3 trailer and the virtually identical Willys MBT trailer. Markings may vary depending on production period and theatre (ETO/Pacific). Please note: registration numbers, stars and shipping markings were not factory markings but applied during shipping or in the field. The Bantam T-3C (civilian post-war version, 1946-1953) had no military markings.
Historical context
The Bantam T-3 was the amphibious 1/4 ton cargo trailer, produced by American Bantam Car Company in Butler, Pennsylvania during WWII. Approximately 73,569 units were built between 1942 and 1945 to accompany the Willys MB and Ford GPW jeeps. These trailers were used for transporting ammunition, food, fuel and equipment and could even be towed afloat behind amphibious vehicles such as the Ford GPA.
