Camshaft chain tensioner blade
Tensioner rail for L-134 engine with chain drive
Tensioner blade (tensioner rail) for the camshaft chain of the L-134 Go Devil engine with chain drive. This component keeps the chain under tension and reduces rattle, wear and extends the service life of the camshaft chain by preventing whipping on the slack side.
|
Type Blade-type tensioner rail |
Application L-134 engine with chain drive |
|
Function Chain tension and wear reduction |
Fitting Between the chain sprockets |
Features
- Significantly reduces chain rattle
- Extends camshaft chain service life
- Prevents whipping of the slack chain side
- Suitable for engines with original single-row chain
- Easy to fit during chain replacement
★ A practical modification that extends the service life of the camshaft chain and reduces annoying chain rattle, particularly useful when using the original single-row chain.
Application
For L-134 Go Devil engines with chain drive camshaft (1941-1945 MB, 1941-1945 Ford GPW, 1952-1968 Hotchkiss M201, early CJ-2A up to approx. 1946). NOT suitable for later engines with gear drive (late CJ-2A from approx. 1946, CJ-3A, CJ-3B, M38).
Installation notes
Fit the tensioner blade on the slack side of the chain between the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets. Check that the tensioner rail is not worn through by the chain and does not press too tightly against the chain. Best fitted during camshaft chain replacement. Note: when using modern double-roller chain sets, a tensioner rail is not necessary.
Compatibility
ONLY for L-134 engines with chain drive. Not suitable for engines with gear drive (these have no chain). If in doubt: engines built after late 1945/early 1946 usually have gear drive. This tensioner blade was NOT an original WWII component but a later improvement that many owners added to reduce chain wear.
Historical context
Willys did not originally use a chain tensioner rail on the MB/GPW engines, presumably to save costs. Later, blade-type tensioner rails were added as an improvement by owners to extend the service life of the original single-row chain and reduce rattle.
