Camshaft thrust washer

For chain-driven L-134 engine

Bronze thrust washer for the camshaft of the early chain-driven L-134 'Go Devil' engine. This thrust washer maintains the camshaft axial clearance within specification and prevents wear to the engine block. Essential component during engine overhaul or camshaft replacement.

Material

Bronze

Type

Chain-driven engine

OEM number

WO-375900 / GPW-6245

Application

L-134 engine with timing chain

Features

  • Bronze construction for optimal wear characteristics
  • For early L-134 engines with timing chain (not gears)
  • Mounts in round opening of front engine plate
  • Determines axial position of the camshaft
  • 1 piece required per engine

★ New production made in USA. Replaces original part number Willys WO-375900 and Ford GPW-6245.

Application

Exclusively for L-134 engines with chain-driven camshaft. Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), early CJ-2A (1945-1946 up to engine no. 44417). NOT suitable for later engines with gear drive — these use a thrust plate with two bolts instead of a thrust washer.

Installation notes

The thrust washer is fitted in the round hole in the front engine plate, against the engine block. The rear of the camshaft timing gear presses against the thrust washer. The camshaft is held axially in place by a spring and plunger in the front of the camshaft, which press against a pin in the timing cover. Check during assembly that the timing cover has the retaining pin — without the pin, the camshaft cannot be axially fixed.

Compatibility

PLEASE NOTE: This part is ONLY for chain-driven L-134 engines. Gear-driven engines use a thrust plate with two bolts. The changeover took place in mid-1946 (around CJ-2A engine no. 44417), with two brief periods when Willys reverted to chain drive due to parts shortages. Check your engine beforehand — fitting the wrong type is impossible.

Historical context

The L-134 'Go Devil' engine was produced during WWII with chain-driven camshaft. In 1946, Willys switched to gear drive for higher reliability and simpler maintenance.
