Crankshaft timing gear 28 teeth

For L-134 engines with gear drive

Replacement timing gear for the crankshaft of the Willys L-134 'Go Devil' engine with gear drive. This 28-tooth steel gear mounts to the crankshaft and drives the valve timing via the camshaft gear (56 teeth). Essential engine component for correct timing.

Material

Steel

Number of teeth

28

Application

L-134 engine with gear drive

Ratio

Works with 56-tooth camshaft gear (2:1)

Features

  • 28 teeth steel construction
  • For gear driven camshaft
  • Replaces original part 641282
  • Essential for correct valve timing
  • Mounted to the crankshaft

★ High-quality replacement timing gear for the crankshaft of L-134 engines with gear drive. Precision-manufactured for reliable and correct valve timing.

Application

For late CJ-2A (from approx. 1947 with gear drive), CJ-3A (1949-1953), M38 (1950-1952) and CJ-3B (1953-1964) with L-134 engine. NOT suitable for early MB, GPW, M201 or early CJ-2A with chain driven camshaft.

Installation notes

During installation: timing marks on crankshaft and camshaft gears must be correctly aligned (marks opposite each other). Crankshaft gear is pressed onto the crankshaft with a woodruff key. Check camshaft end play with shims after installation. Set timing to 5° before TDC cylinder 1.

Compatibility

IMPORTANT: There are two different timing systems for the L-134 engine. This gear is ONLY for engines with gear drive. Early MB/GPW (1941-1945) and early CJ-2A (until approx. 1947) had chain drive and use sprocket 638459 instead of this gear. Check which system your engine has before ordering.

Historical context

The Willys L-134 'Go Devil' engine was originally built with chain drive for the WWII MB and GPW. Post-war, Willys switched to a more robust gear drive for civilian models and the M38, improving reliability and ease of maintenance.
