Oil pump and distributor drive gear

For L-134 and F-134 engines with gear drive

Drive gear for the oil pump on gear driven engines. This component fits onto the oil pump shaft and meshes with the camshaft timing gear. Essential for correct operation of the lubrication system and distributor drive.

Application

Gear driven engines

Engine type

L-134 / F-134

Drive

Gear driven timing

Function

Oil pump and distributor shaft drive

Features

  • Gear for oil pump drive
  • Suitable for engines with gear driven timing
  • Meshes with camshaft gear
  • Determines correct distributor position
  • High-quality replacement part

★ Correct replacement part for oil pump drive on engines with gear driven timing system.

Application

Suitable for Willys L-134 and F-134 four-cylinder engines with gear driven camshaft. Fits late CJ-2A (with gear driven engine), CJ-3A (1949-1953), M38 (1950-1952), CJ-3B (1953-1964) and Hotchkiss M201. NOTE: Not suitable for early MB, GPW and early CJ-2A with chain driven camshaft.

Installation notes

The gear must be installed with the engine at TDC (Top Dead Centre) of cylinder 1. The slot in the oil pump shaft must be correctly orientated for insertion of the distributor. The distributor shaft has an offset tang that corresponds with the oil pump shaft slot. Incorrect installation will result in improper timing.

Compatibility

ONLY for gear driven engines. NOT compatible with early chain driven L-134 engines as used in WWII MB, GPW and early CJ-2A (1945-1946). The transition from chain to gear drive took place during CJ-2A production. Always check first which type of engine your vehicle has by removing the timing cover.

Historical context

The Willys L-134 engine received an update around 1947-1948 from chain drive to gear drive for the camshaft and oil pump. This more reliable system became standard on all later civilian and military jeeps with the L-134 and successor F-134 engine until 1971.
