Connecting rod complete cylinder no. 2 & 4

WO-640072

Complete connecting rod for cylinders no. 2 and 4 of the Willys 134ci L-head engine. This connecting rod is essential during engine overhaul and has a specific offset and oil squirt hole that differs from the connecting rods for cylinders 1 and 3.

Engine type

134ci L-head (Go Devil)

Position

Cylinder 2 & 4

Bolt specification

7/16" thread bolts

Part number

WO-640072

Features

  • Complete connecting rod with bolt assembly
  • For cylinders 2 and 4 (not interchangeable with 1 & 3)
  • Specific offset for correct alignment with crankshaft
  • Oil squirt hole correctly positioned
  • 7/16" diameter connecting rod bolts (late type)

★ New production connecting rod for correct engine overhaul. Essential for any serious engine restoration of the iconic Go Devil engine.

Application

For Willys 134ci (2.2L) L-head "Go Devil" engine. Part number WO-640072 replaced the earlier WO-640000. This connecting rod fits cylinder position 2 and 4. NOTE: connecting rods 1 & 3 have a different part number (WO-640071) due to different offset direction.

Installation notes

CRITICAL: connecting rods have an offset (asymmetric big-end). The longest side of the offset must ALWAYS point towards the nearest main bearing, NOT away from it (the early TM manuals contain an error on this point). The oil squirt hole must face the passenger side of the block (away from the camshaft). Cap and rod are finish-machined together during manufacture — NEVER swap caps between connecting rods.

Compatibility

There are 2 different connecting rods in the L-134 engine: WO-640071 for cylinders 1 & 3, and WO-640072 for cylinders 2 & 4. These are NOT interchangeable due to different offset direction and oil squirt hole position. Willys MB/GPW connecting rods with 7/16" bolts are technically interchangeable with Ford GPW integral-bolt type, although they appear different.

Historical context

The WO-640072 connecting rod was developed during the war for the legendary Go Devil engine and replaced the earlier WO-640000 number. This robust engine powered virtually all Willys MB and Ford GPW jeeps built between 1941-1945.
