★ Essential component for any engine overhaul — when crankshaft wear is present, undersize bearings (.010,.020,.030,.040) are required after regrinding the crankshaft.
Application
For all vehicles with 4-134 ci engine according to product categories: Willys MB, Ford GPW, Hotchkiss M201, CJ-2A, CJ-3A and CJ-3B. Standard size is only suitable for crankshafts that have not been reground. For reground crankshafts, undersize bearings are essential, depending on the regrind size.
Installation notes
Always check the crankshaft diameter with a micrometre before ordering bearings. Main bearing caps must be torqued to specification (65-75 ft-lbs according to specifications). Use assembly lubricant on the bearing shells. The front bearing has a flange for axial crankshaft positioning; the rear bearing has two oil grooves. Ensure correct positioning of oil passage openings and dowels.
Compatibility
IMPORTANT: Standard size bearings fit ONLY on crankshafts that have not been reground. For repair work on reground crankshafts, undersize bearings are required:.010,.020,.030,.040 inch undersize, depending on the regrind size. These bearings fit both chain-driven (early MB/GPW) and gear-driven (late CJ) 4-134 engines.
Historical context
The 4-134 ci engine was the beating heart of millions of American military jeeps and civilian Willys vehicles from 1941 until the early 1970s. Crankshaft bearings were precision components that required regular renewal during engine overhauls.
