Application
Suitable for Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), CJ-2A (1945-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953), M38 (1950-1952), Willys Pick-up Truck (1946-1949), Station Wagon (1946-1949) and Jeepster (1948-1949) with L-134 Flathead engine. Note: for L-head (flathead) engines only, NOT for F-134 F-head engines.
Installation notes
Clean all surfaces thoroughly before assembly. Cylinder head: torque 65-70 lb-ft in correct sequence (from centre outwards). Sump: 10-12 lb-ft. Use non-hardening gasket sealer on paper gaskets if required. Rear main seal: lightly grease before fitting.
Compatibility
Specific to L-134 Flathead (side valve) engine. NOT compatible with F-134 'Hurricane' F-head engine (1950-1971). Note difference between chain drive (early MB/GPW 1941-1945) vs gear drive (late CJ models 1946+) — this set is universal for both variants of the L-134.
Historical context
The L-134 'Go Devil' engine was developed by chief engineer Barney Roos and formed the beating heart of more than 640,000 WWII Jeeps. This robust flathead four-cylinder remained in production at Willys-Overland until 1953 for both military and civilian vehicles.
