Crankcase ventilation valve (PCV valve)

For L-134 engine with closed ventilation system

This crankcase ventilation valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve) is an essential component of the closed ventilation system on the L-134 engine. The spring-loaded valve regulates vacuum in the crankcase and returns blow-by gases to the combustion chambers via the intake manifold. Regular cleaning of this component prevents engine damage from oil build-up and increased crankcase pressure.

Function

Crankcase ventilation with spring-operated valve

Mounting

Horizontal on valve cover, connection to intake manifold

Application

L-134 engine with PCV system

Ventilation type

Closed system (Positive Crankcase Ventilation)

Features

  • Spring-operated valve for automatic pressure regulation
  • Horizontal mounting on side valve cover
  • Connects to intake manifold via steel pipe
  • Prevents oil leakage and engine oil contamination
  • Regular cleaning required — not replaced like modern PCV valves

★ This valve is designed for disassembly and cleaning. A malfunctioning PCV system causes starting problems, rough idling and increased oil consumption.

Application

Suitable for vehicles with L-134 engine fitted with the closed crankcase ventilation system (PCV). This system was introduced in January 1943 (from Willys MB chassis #208437 / engine #204040) and was used on late military jeeps and civilian jeeps. Early MB/GPW vehicles (until early 1943) had an open road draft tube system (A-1061) — this valve does NOT fit those. Please note: the categories in which this product appears list various vehicle models, but always verify that your vehicle actually has a PCV system before ordering.

Installation notes

The valve is mounted in the ventilator housing (cup A6919) which is fitted to the side valve cover. The threaded side of the valve connects to a steel pipe to the intake manifold. Ensure the air flow is correct: vacuum on threaded side. Clean regularly by removing the valve, inspecting and cleaning the internals (spring and valve body). Do not use standard hose — only oil-resistant fuel line or special PCV hose.

Compatibility

ONLY for vehicles with closed PCV system (from early 1943). NOT compatible with early jeeps that have a road draft tube (A-1061). If in doubt: check whether your valve cover has a mounted cup (A6919) with threaded connection. In the absence of a PCV system, your vehicle probably has an open draft tube protruding beneath the oil sump.

Historical context

The closed crankcase ventilation system was introduced on military jeeps in January 1943 as an emission control measure and to reduce oil contamination. The system uses manifold vacuum to return crankcase gases to the engine, rather than venting them outside via a draft tube.
