Features

  • Pressed and die-cut as original
  • Replacement part for reliable sealing
  • Compatible with L-134 flathead engine
  • Recommended replacement at every thermostat service

★ Correctly manufactured gasket that properly seals the thermostat housing against the cylinder head. Always use a new gasket during installation for leak-free operation.

Application

Fits vehicles with L-134 L-Head engine: Willys MB (1941-1945), CJ-2A (1946-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953), M38 (1950-1952), Willys Truck (1946-1949), Station Wagon (1946-1949) and Jeepster (1948-1949). NOTE: L-Head version only, not for F-Head engines (CJ-3B, M38A1).

Installation notes

Remove old gasket and clean both surfaces thoroughly. Optionally use a thin layer of heat-resistant Permatex or similar gasket sealer. Torque specification for water outlet elbow: 20-25 ft-lbs (27-34 Nm). Check for leaks after initial warm-up.

Compatibility

Exclusively for L-134 L-Head engines (1941-1953). NOT compatible with F-134 F-Head engines used in later models (CJ-3B, M38A1, later CJ-5). The F-Head engine has a different thermostat housing design and uses a different gasket (648852).

Historical context

The L-134 'Go Devil' engine was the workhorse of the Willys MB and Ford GPW during WWII. The cooling system with its characteristic water outlet elbow was designed for reliability under severe combat conditions.
