Application
Suitable for Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), Hotchkiss M201, CJ-2A (1946-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953) and M38 (1950-1952) with L-134 flathead engine. These vehicles used a mechanical rod linkage instead of a cable. The set connects the bellcrank on the rear of the engine block to the carburettor rod.
Installation notes
The throttle rod runs from the bellcrank (mounted on rear of engine block) to the carburettor. The adjustment block on the thread allows precise adjustment of free play. Fit the return spring between the spring tab on the carburettor and the bellcrank. After installation, check that the accelerator pedal returns fully to rest position and the carburettor can open fully.
Compatibility
NOT compatible with CJ-3B, CJ-5, CJ-6 or M38A1 — these models have a different configuration with the bellcrank on the cylinder head. Also not for Willys trucks with F-134 engine. Only for vehicles with L-134 flathead engine where the bellcrank is mounted on the rear of the engine block.
Historical context
Mechanical throttle control via rods was standard on all WWII jeeps and the early civilian CJ models. It was not until the CJ-3B in 1953 that a different configuration was adopted due to the introduction of the taller F-134 engine.
