TUBE AIR FILTER TO CARBURATOR MB EARLY
MID
Air Cleaner to Carburettor Tube MB Early
Early version without crankcase ventilation connection
Steel crossover tube routing filtered air from the air cleaner to the carburettor across the top of the L-134 engine. This early version is recognisable by the absence of the small crankcase ventilation connection tube that was applied on later versions from serial number MB-208437 (February 1943).

★ Correct early version for authentic restoration of early MB and GPW jeeps produced before the ventilation system modification of February 1943.
Application
This early crossover tube was used on Willys MB and Ford GPW jeeps up to serial number MB-208437 (February 1943). Early vehicles had a downdraft tube on the valve cover and no PCV ventilation on the air cleaner crossover. From January-February 1943, this system was changed to an integrated crankcase ventilation with connection tube on the crossover tube.
Installation notes
The tube is bolted to the top of the flathead engine. Ensure that the spark plug lead from cylinder #1 passes through the small opening beneath the tube. Use rubber hoses with clamps at both ends to connect the tube airtight to the air cleaner and carburettor air horn. Ensure proper sealing — leaks admit unfiltered air.
Compatibility
ONLY for early MB/GPW without integrated crankcase ventilation. Not compatible with late-war jeeps (from approximately February 1943) which require a crossover tube with small PCV connection tube. Check your serial number and valve cover: early vehicles have a downdraft tube on the valve cover; late ones have a twist-lock oil filler cap with ventilation connection.
Historical context
The air system of the Willys MB underwent several evolutions during the war. The very earliest vehicles (Nov. 1941 - March 1942) even had a 'pancake' air cleaner, followed by the Oakes oil-bath system with this crossover tube. In January-February 1943, crankcase ventilation was integrated into the air system — an important modification that distinguishes these early and late tubes.
