Application
Suitable for the Carter WO carburettor (models 539S and 698S) as originally fitted to Willys MB, Ford GPW, Willys CJ-2A (1946-1949), Willys CJ-3A (1949-1953) and M38 jeeps with L-134 engine. Mounting bolt spacing: 2 3/8 inches (60mm) centre-to-centre.
Installation notes
Check the condition of all sealing surfaces on the carburettor before fitting. Thoroughly clean all old gasket material. The flange gasket with diffuser must be fitted with the V-shaped diffuser facing downwards (towards the inlet manifold). Tighten the flange bolts in a diagonal pattern and evenly to prevent distortion. Always replace all gaskets during overhaul.
Compatibility
Exclusively for Carter WO carburettors. NOT suitable for Carter YF (as used on later F-head engines) or Zenith replacements. Please note: some M38 models had a different carburettor from the factory and require modification of the inlet system for fitting a Carter WO.
Historical context
The Carter WO carburettor was fitted as standard during WWII to all Willys MB and Ford GPW jeeps, and remained in use on the early post-war civilian CJ-2A and CJ-3A models until 1953.
