Lead substitute petrol — 250 litres

Fuel additive for classic engines

Lead substitute for use in older petrol engines originally developed for leaded fuel. Protects valves and valve seats against premature wear when using unleaded petrol. Bottle treats 250 litres of fuel.

Application

Petrol additive

Contents

For 250 litres of petrol

Mixing ratio

1:1000

Use

At every refuelling

Features

  • Protects valves and valve seats against recession
  • Prevents valve seat recession
  • Forms protective lubricating film like leaded petrol
  • Suitable for engines without hardened valve seats
  • Add before refuelling

★ Essential protection for classic engines developed for leaded petrol. Prevents costly engine damage to valves and valve seats.

Application

For use in petrol engines built before the mid-1970s, originally designed for leaded petrol and not fitted with hardened valve seats. Not required for engines with already fitted hardened steel valve seats.

Installation notes

Add to fuel tank before refuelling. Mixing ratio: 1 ml additive per 1 litre of petrol. During intensive use (high revs, heavy load) increased dosage may be applied. Use at every refuelling for continuous protection.

Compatibility

Suitable for all older petrol engines with soft (non-hardened) valve seats. For engines fitted with hardened steel valve seats during overhaul, lead substitute is no longer necessary. Not harmful to catalytic converters.

Historical context

Lead was added to petrol from the 1920s onwards to increase octane rating and protect valve seats. After the ban on leaded petrol in the 1990s, lead substitutes were developed to enable continued use of classic engines without costly cylinder head overhaul.
