Application
Suitable for military jeeps with fuel tank beneath the driver's seat. The tank mounts in the recessed tank well on the driver's side of the chassis. Fits vehicles with standard 15-gallon tank configuration.
Installation notes
The tank is mounted in the tank well beneath the driver's seat with fixing straps and lined rubbers to prevent contact with the chassis. The fuel line screws directly into the welded-in fitting at the bottom of the tank (thread ½-20, 5/16 inverted flare). Ensure correct earthing of the gauge sender for accurate fuel gauge operation.
Compatibility
Please note: fuel tanks for military jeeps were produced in different versions. Early type (1941-1942) has a narrow filler opening (small mouth), late type (1943-1945) has a wide filler opening (large mouth). Check which type suits your vehicle and year of manufacture. Fuel cap, gauge sender, fixing straps and anti-rattle strips are not included and must be ordered separately.
Historical context
The fuel tank of the WWII military jeep was positioned beneath the driver's seat to save space and keep the centre of gravity low. The change from small mouth to large mouth filler opening took place around November 1942 to facilitate refuelling with a retractable filler pipe.
