★ Essential component to protect fuel against contamination during refuelling. The built-in strainer filters sand, rust and coarse particles before they enter the tank.
Application
Suitable for late Willys MB and Ford GPW fuel tanks with large filler neck (tank A-6618), introduced from November 1942 until end of production 1945. Original Willys part number GPW9034A, Ford part number WO-A6424.
Installation notes
The filler tube is placed in the large filler opening of the fuel tank and rests on the edge of the filler neck. The mesh strainer is located at the bottom of the tube and filters fuel during refuelling. Check the strainer regularly for contamination.
Compatibility
Fits ONLY late fuel tanks with large filler neck (from November 1942). Does NOT fit early tanks with small filler neck (A-1221, used until September 1942). Note: from early 1945 some tanks received a ceramic filter element instead of this filler tube with strainer.
Historical context
The filler tube with strainer became standard from November 1942 when the MB and GPW switched to the fuel tank with large filler neck. This simple but effective solution replaced the earlier fuel filter on the firewall and provided primary filtration during refuelling.
