Exhaust manifold brass nut

3/8"-24NF

Brass nut for securing the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head. Brass is used instead of steel because it does not seize onto the stud due to the high temperatures of the engine. This significantly facilitates subsequent removal.

Material

Brass

Thread

3/8"-24 NF (fine thread)

Application

Exhaust manifold mounting

Packaging

Per piece

Features

  • Manufactured from brass for superior heat resistance
  • Prevents seizing to the stud due to high engine temperatures
  • Facilitates subsequent removal during maintenance
  • 3/8"-24NF fine thread
  • Suitable for use with bevelled bridging washers

★ High-quality brass nut fitted as standard on WWII military vehicles. Brass is the recommended material for exhaust fastenings due to its thermal properties and ease of removal after years of service.

Installation notes

Tighten by hand until lightly seated. Do not use excessive force — brass is softer than steel. When using with bridging washers: fit the bevelled washer first, then the nut. Check tightness annually.

Compatibility

Note: different vehicles use different nuts. Early MB/GPW use standard brass nuts with bevelled bridging washers (GPW-9443/WO-344732). Later M38/M38A1/CJ models often use self-locking brass nuts. Check which type your vehicle requires.

Historical context

Originally, steel nuts were used, but these tended to seize onto the studs due to the extreme heat from the exhaust. From the production of the MB/GPW onwards, brass became the standard for this application.
