Exhaust muffler support bracket mounting through front floor

Set of 2 pieces

Steel mounting bracket for fitting the exhaust muffler to the underside of the front floor. This U-shaped bracket mounts through the floor and holds the muffler in place using rubber isolators. Two pieces required per vehicle.

Material

Steel

Type

Set contents

2 pieces (1 set)

Features

  • U-shaped steel bracket for floor mounting
  • Secures exhaust muffler to underside of front floor
  • Fitted with welded nut for easy installation
  • To be used with rubber isolator (GPW-5283)
  • 2 pieces required per vehicle (front and rear of muffler)

★ Reproduction bracket for correct mounting of the standard side exhaust or deep mud system.

Application

For Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945) and Hotchkiss M201 with standard oval or round exhaust muffler. One bracket mounts at the front of the muffler, the second at the rear. Suitable for both standard side exhaust and early deep mud configurations.

Installation notes

Brackets mount from underneath through the front floor, approximately 1" (2.5 cm) from the body side. The front bracket is positioned roughly halfway along the front floor hat channel, the rear bracket approximately 5" forward of the floor end at the wheel arch. Rubber isolators (GPW-5283) between bracket and muffler provide vibration damping. Check the position before drilling holes in a reproduction front floor.

Compatibility

Fits oval (A-6118) and round exhaust mufflers. NOT compatible with CJ-2A or later civilian models without modification — these have a different floor configuration. For deep mud systems with rear exhaust, additional brackets to the chassis are required.

Historical context

The WWII jeep's exhaust muffler hung beneath the passenger side on rubber-isolated brackets through the front floor. This system proved vulnerable to damage in mud and snow, which led to the introduction of the 'deep mud' system with rear exhaust in late 1944.
