Application
Specific for vehicles fitted with the early round exhaust muffler (round type muffler). Willys MB up to approximately serial number 143507 (early 1942), corresponding early Ford GPW production, and Hotchkiss M201. After this serial number, production changed to the oval exhaust muffler with different mounting.
Installation notes
The round muffler uses the same mounting points on the body as the later oval muffler, but requires specific round clamps and brackets. Rubber isolators are fitted between clamps and body for vibration damping. Ensure all rubber components are in good condition for stable mounting.
Compatibility
ONLY for round exhaust muffler (early/round type). NOT compatible with oval muffler (oval/standard type used from MB 143507+). NOT for deep mud exhaust system. Mounting positions on body are identical, but clamps and brackets differ between round and oval type.
Historical context
The round exhaust muffler was used on the very first Willys MB production until spring 1942 (approximately serial number 143507), after which the oval muffler became standard. The early round muffler has a characteristically louder and rawer sound than the later oval version.
