Thermostat housing water outlet elbow

For L-134 engine

Cast iron thermostat housing elbow for the water outlet at the top of the L-134 engine. This component forms the housing for the thermostat and connects to the cylinder head, with an outlet for the upper radiator hose.

Material

Cast iron

Engine applications

L-134 Go Devil (L-head)

Part number

A-1192 / WOA1192

Function

Thermostat housing and water outlet

Features

  • Cast iron construction for durability
  • Direct mounting to cylinder head
  • Connection for upper radiator hose
  • Housing for thermostat and retaining clip
  • Pre-drilled mounting holes

★ Essential cooling system component, suitable for restoration and overhaul of the L-134 engine.

Application

For vehicles with L-134 Go Devil engine (L-head): CJ-2A (1945-1949), CJ-3A (1948-1953), M38 (1950-1952), early CJ-3B models with L-134 engine. Note: CJ-3B was usually supplied from 1953 onwards with F-134 Hurricane engine, which requires a different thermostat housing.

Installation notes

The elbow is bolted to the front of the cylinder head. Fit with new gasket (639650) between housing and head. Install thermostat in correct orientation (spring side towards engine) and secure with retainer clip (639651). Check all connections for leaks after assembly.

Compatibility

ONLY for L-134 L-head engine. NOT suitable for F-134 F-head engine (Hurricane) — this uses a different thermostat housing (part 800293) with different mounting points and geometry. Check engine type before ordering: L-head has flat cylinder head with all valves in block, F-head has raised cylinder head with inlet valves on top.

Historical context

The L-134 Go Devil engine powered the Willys MB and Ford GPW through WWII and remained in production until the early 1950s in civilian CJ models. The thermostat housing regulates engine temperature by allowing coolant to flow only once the optimum operating temperature (160-180°F) is reached.
