★ Manufactured to original VEP specifications. This gauge is distinguished by the removable 'paint can lid' bezel applied only to the very first Ford GPWs.
Application
Exclusively for Very Early Production Ford GPW with serial numbers from 1 to approximately 12,000–15,000, manufactured from February 1942 to late March/early April 1942. From mid-March/April 1942, Ford switched to the standard bezel design (non-removable). Not suitable for later GPW production or Willys MB.
Installation notes
The capillary sensor screws into the adapter on the cylinder head. The extended cable of this VEP version simplifies installation. Temperature gauge fits standard 52 mm dashboard opening. Ensure the capillary tube is not kinked during installation.
Compatibility
ONLY suitable for Very Early Production Ford GPW (February–March/April 1942). NOT compatible with: later Ford GPW (standard bezel from April 1942), Willys MB (uses different gauge design), Ford GPA (different configuration). For later GPWs, the standard water temperature gauge with fixed bezel is required (GPW10883).
Historical context
The paint can lid bezel was used on the very first Ford GPWs from the start-up phase of production. The removable bezel, resembling a paint tin lid, was replaced in March/April 1942 by the standard fixed bezel when production reached full capacity.
