Temperature gauge adapter to cylinder head

For mechanical gauge with capillary tube

Adapter bushing for connecting mechanical temperature gauge to the cylinder head of the L-134 engine. This brass threaded nipple is fitted into the cylinder head (passenger side), after which the capillary tube of the temperature gauge can be connected to it. Replaces original part A-1716.

Material

Brass

Application

L-134 Go Devil engine

Position

Cylinder head, passenger side

Gauge type

Mechanical gauge with capillary tube

Features

  • Adapter bushing for mechanical temperature gauge
  • Screws directly into L-134 engine cylinder head
  • Capillary tube of gauge screws onto it
  • Replaces original A-1716
  • Required for correct fitting of mechanical gauge

★ Essential component for connecting mechanical temperature gauges with capillary tube to the L-134 flathead engine.

Application

Suitable for vehicles with L-134 Go Devil engine: CJ-2A (1945-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953), CJ-3B (1953-1964), M38 (1950-1952). Exclusively for use with mechanical temperature gauges operating with capillary tube and expansion element — not for electrical gauges with sensor.

Installation notes

The adapter is fitted into the thread on the passenger side of the cylinder head. Ensure adequate sealing with PTFE tape or pipe sealant. The capillary tube of the mechanical temperature gauge is then screwed into the adapter. Check for leaks after fitting.

Compatibility

L-134 flathead engine only. Does not fit F-134 Hurricane (which has larger thread). Exclusively for mechanical gauges — electrical gauges use a different sensor fitting. Note: some late CJ-2A and early CJ-3A may have had electrical gauges depending on specification.

Historical context

Mechanical temperature gauges with capillary tube were standard on early Willys jeeps and CJ models. This adapter bushing (Willys A-1716) was originally brass and fitted into the cylinder head to receive the fine thread of the capillary tube.
