INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
COILS FOR 12-VOLT SYSTEMS
RESISTOR NOT REQUIRED
1. DO NOT INSTALL these coils on 12-volt systems equipped with a resistor or with resistance built into the wiring harness.
2. SELECT THE RIGHT COIL by referring to the application guide in the catalog.
3. COIL POLARITY MUST BE CORRECT. If the negative battery post is grounded, the coil terminal
marked (-) must be connected to the distributor. If the positive post is grounded, connect the coil marked (+) to the distributor.
4. All connections must be clean and tight. Make sure the coil high tension wire is firmly seated in the coil tower and the spark plug wires are firmly seated in the distributor cap towers

Ignition coil 12 volt

With internal resistor

Ignition coil for 12 volt electrical systems. Suitable for vehicles with L-134 or F-134 engine converted from 6V to 12V, or originally equipped with 12V installation. This coil features an internal resistor, eliminating the need for an external ballast resistor.

Voltage

12 volt

Resistance

Internal resistor (approx. 3 Ω)

Application

L-134 and F-134 engines

Fitting

Standard mounting on engine block

Features

  • Designed for 12V systems without external ballast resistor
  • Primary winding with approx. 3 Ω resistance
  • Secondary winding 6,000–15,000 Ω
  • Suitable for standard distributor ignition with contact points
  • Direct replacement for 12V systems

★ Reliable ignition coil for 12V conversions or original 12V systems. Fitted with internal resistor — no external ballast resistor required.

Application

Suitable for vehicles with 12V electrical system. Intended for Willys MB, Ford GPW, CJ-2A, CJ-3A, CJ-3B and M38 with 4-cylinder L-134 or F-134 engine converted to 12V, or for later models (from mid-1950s onwards) originally equipped with 12V. Not suitable for original 6V or 24V systems.

Installation notes

CAUTION: do NOT use this coil on systems with external ballast resistor or with resistance in the wiring harness. Check polarity: with earth on negative terminal, connect (-) to distributor; with earth on positive terminal, connect (+) to distributor. Ensure all connections are clean and properly tightened. Check that the high tension lead is securely seated in the coil tower.

Compatibility

ONLY for 12V systems. Not suitable for original 6V (WWII MB/GPW/early CJ) or 24V (M38A1) without conversion. Some 12V coils require an external resistor — this coil has an INTERNAL resistor and must therefore NOT be combined with an external ballast resistor. If in doubt: measure the primary resistance (should be 2.5–4.5 Ω for 12V coil with internal resistor).

Historical context

From the mid-1950s onwards, most Willys vehicles switched from 6V to 12V electrical systems. Many WWII jeeps (MB/GPW) were later converted to 12V for improved starting performance and compatibility with modern accessories.
