★ Quality reproduction of the original bronze bearing for reliable operation of your 6 volt dynamo.
Application
Suitable for 6 volt Auto-Lite bushing-type generators (GEG-5101 series) as fitted to Willys MB and Ford GPW from mid-1943-1944 onwards, and post-war civilian jeeps CJ-2A, CJ-3A and CJ-3B. Bushing-type generators are identified by the rectangular rear cover with oil cup, as opposed to the round cover of early bearing-type generators.
Installation notes
The bushing is fitted into the rear housing of the generator. Ensure correct fit and regular lubrication via the oil cup on the rear plate. When fitting, check the armature for true running and play. When overhauling the dynamo, also inspect brushes and commutator.
Compatibility
ONLY for bushing-type generators (GEG-5101 series, from mid-1943 onwards). NOT suitable for early bearing-type generators (GEG-5001/5002 series, until mid-1943) which use two ball bearings. Note the difference: bushing-type has rectangular rear plate with oil cup, bearing-type has round rear plate.
Historical context
From mid-1943 onwards, Auto-Lite switched from ball-bearing to bushing-type generators for WWII jeeps. The rear ball bearing was replaced by a bronze bushing to reduce production costs and conserve materials during wartime production.
