Generator Splash Shield 6 Volt

Frame-mounted splash guard

Frame-mounted shield that fits beneath the 6-volt generator for protection against splashing water and dirt. This splash guard protects both the generator and battery against unwanted moisture and contamination from the road surface, essential for reliable operation of the electrical system.

Material

Pressed steel

Finish

Untreated (ready for primer)

Application

Ford GPW 1941-1945

Part number

WOA642F (GPW-type)

Features

  • Frame-mounted splash shield for 6V generator
  • Protective shield against water, mud and dirt
  • Prevents corrosion and short circuits to battery and generator
  • Original fit with pre-drilled mounting holes
  • Repro of original WW2 design

★ Robust shield that extends the service life of your 6-volt electrical system by keeping out moisture and dirt.

Application

Specific to Ford GPW jeeps (1941-1945) with 6-volt electrical system. Also fits Willys MB when fitted with correct mounting bolts (Willys uses different bolt sizes than GPW). Mounts beneath the generator, directly onto the chassis.

Installation notes

The splash shield mounts flat against the inside of the left chassis rail. The mounting lip with 2 slotted holes fastens into the tapped holes on the chassis; the single tab with round hole fastens to the passenger side engine mount. GPW version uses 5/16" bolts; Willys MB version uses 1/4" bolts. When removing/installing the engine, check that the shield is not bent.

Compatibility

This is the GPW version (WOA642F). There is a difference between the Willys MB type (WOA642) and Ford GPW type: the MB type has an additional mounting hole. The mounting bolts also differ between both variants. Willys MB uses 2× 1/4-28 bolts and 1× 1/4-20 bolt; Ford GPW uses 5/16" bolts.

Historical context

During WW2, jeeps drove through mud, water and dust in all climates. This simple yet essential shield prevented splashing from damaging the 6-volt generator and battery — crucial components for starting, lighting and radio communication in the field.
