★ Essential electrical component for classic foot operation of main and dipped beam, as originally fitted to military and early civilian jeeps.
Application
Suitable for Willys MB (1941-1945), Ford GPW (1941-1945), CJ-2A (1945-1949), CJ-3A (1949-1953), M38 (1950-1952) and CJ-3B (1953-1964). Fits vehicles with floor-mounted dimmer switch.
Installation notes
Switch mounts on the left floor panel (driver's side). Mounting with two bolt holes. Three connections: centre terminal for power supply, left/right terminals for main beam and dipped beam output. Ensure good earthing and protect connections against moisture and dirt.
Compatibility
Note: military M38 and M38A1 models originally used 24V systems with waterproof Packard connectors. This switch is for 6V/12V systems. For 24V applications, a different version is required. Not suitable for later models with steering column-mounted dimmer.
Historical context
The floor-mounted dimmer switch was standard for decades on American vehicles. The robust design in the spacious floor area allowed for larger and more reliable switches than steering column mounting.
