Application
This ammeter was originally fitted to Ford GPW jeeps from start of production (SOP, October 1941) until early June 1942. After June 1942, this type was replaced by gauges with a standard bezel. Note: early GPWs used either 30 amp or 50 amp gauges depending on generator type (GEG5001 vs GEG5002).
Installation notes
Mounting in the instrument panel. Connects to the 6V electrical system — the ammeter measures charge and discharge current of the battery. Check before fitting which amperage corresponds to your generator type.
Compatibility
ONLY suitable for very early Ford GPW production (October 1941 - June 1942). Not suitable for late GPW models that used a standard bezel gauge (from mid-1942 onwards). Willys MB used different Auto-Lite gauges.
Historical context
Stewart Warner supplied instrumentation for the Ford GPW. The earliest production runs used gauges with a removable 'paint can lid' bezel — a distinctive feature of Very Early Production (VEP) Ford GPW jeeps. This type was replaced mid-1942 by the standard bezel type which remained in production until the end of the war.
